On Thursday, February 28, the Canadian Journalism Foundation will host a journalism talk in Toronto titled The Twitter Effect: Is Journalism Still Able to Get it Right? Participants will discuss the various challenges and ethical dilemmas that arise as journalists increasingly turn to Twitter and other social networking sites to report on breaking news.

Pannelists include Andy Carvin, senior social media strategist at NPR and author of Distant Witness; Esther Enkin, ombudsman for CBC English services; and Mathew Ingram, senior writer at GigaOM.

Kathy English, public editor at the Toronto Star, will moderate the event.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has released the 2013-2014 Applicant's Guide and Application Form for the Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF). The ATP component of CPF provides financial assistance to paid-circulation non-daily newspapers and paid or request circulation magazines.

Eligibility and the funding amounts are calculated using a circulation-based formula.

Publishers must submit application forms and all supporting documents to the Department of Canadian Heritage by Monday, November 26, 2012.
