Star Media Group and Metroland named media sponsors for 2015 Pan Am Games

The Toronto Organizing Committee for the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games has announced that Star Media Group, owner of Toronto Star, and Metroland Media Group will be the official print and online media suppliers for the international multi-sport event. As part of the agreement, Star Media Group and Metroland will provide the organizing committee with promotional space in the Toronto Star, Metro free daily newspapers, Metroland community newspapers and other publications and online properties. TC Media and Glacier join forces on digital advertising sales

TC Media has entered into a strategic partnership with Vancouver-based daily and weekly newspaper publisher Glacier Media. TC Media will now represent national online advertising sales on all of Glacier's digital properties, including over 60 websites in Canada’s western provinces. Read more »

Media tycoon sees investment potential in Canadian newspapers

Conrad Black, founder of The National Post and former head of Hollinger International, sparked speculation this week that he could be planning a return to the media industry. In an interview with Huffington Post Canada, Black speculated that newspapers in Canada are undervalued and that there are significant investment opportunities in the industry, “There is a great premium to be placed on the editorial function and on the goodwill of a famous trademark like a respected newspaper,” he said. Canada Post changes coming January 2013

Canada Post has announced some key changes and enhancements to Unaddressed Admail and Publications Mail services that will impact community newspaper distribution practices. The changes will come into place on January 14, 2013. Read more »

Time is running out to sign up for NewsTrain Toronto

There is just over one month left to register for NewsTrain, the Associated Press Media Editors’ renowned two-day training workshop coming to Toronto this fall. On September 13-14, four bright journalism practitioners from across North America will share their insights on a diverse variety of editorial topics. The nine educational sessions will cover social media, video techniques, Freedom of Information requests, planning for multi-platform reporting and more. Read more »

Newspaper veteran and CCNA Honorary Life Member Merv Farmer passed away on July 24 at age 74. Farmer began his publishing career in 1955 at the Stonewall Argus print shop. He went on to purchase the weekly paper and in 1967 he founded Interlake Publishing, which operated the Stonewall Argus and Teulon Times and the print shop. Farmer launched the Interlake Spectator in 1973 and the Selkirk Journal in 1985. Read more »

Amateur sports journalist Martin Cleary is retiring from the Ottawa Citizen. Cleary first joined the Citizen almost 40 years ago as a summer student. He went on to become a full-time sportswriter and has covered the more than 30 editions of the Ottawa Marathon and six Olympic Games over his career at the daily paper. Read more »
