NADbank releases product, retail and lifestyle data from 2011 Readership Study

Newspaper Audience Databank (NADbank), the principle research arm for the Canadian daily newspaper industry, has released the full results from its 2011 Readership Study. The latest release provides product, retail shopping and lifestyle data from over 25,000 Canadians in 21 urban markets across the country. Read more »

TC Media acquires majority stake in Redux Media

In an effort to broaden its existing digital network, TC Media (formerly Transcontinental) has purchased a majority stake in Redux Media. The online advertising network includes over 2,500 websites reaching more than 82 million unique visitors in Canada and the US. The acquisition will help the publishing company to continue developing its digital display-advertising network and related digital marketing services. Read more »

Postmedia’s latest digital venture spotlights commercial real estate

Postmedia Network has announced that it will partner with Colliers International Inc. to launch a new digital site highlighting the latest commercial real estate developments in Canada. The Property Post site--which includes news, commentary, property listings and videos--launches this week on the Financial Post website as well as the online business sections of The Vancouver Sun, the Calgary Herald and the Edmonton Journal. Newspapers Canada is thrilled to launch a new service that highlights editorial content from Canadian newspapers. Using a new search tool provided on the Newspapers Canada website, users can browse for articles and images from a variety of Canadian daily and community newspapers. The special search function allows users to source information exclusively from a reliable source - newspapers. Read more »

Newspapers Canada releases 2012 Q1 revenue data for daily newspapers

Mobile advertising nearly doubled over the first quarter of last year going from $560,000 in Q1 2011 to $1,016,000 in Q1 2012 according to the latest daily newspaper revenue report released by Newspapers Canada. The quarterly survey also revealed that first quarter revenues in print advertising and circulation show a slower decline compared to the first quarter of 2011 and online revenues remain relatively flat following several positive quarters. The annual awards program is open to all newspapers (daily and community), advertisers, agencies and freelancers. Two-day training workshop comes to Toronto this September

Newspapers Canada and Metroland Media Group are teaming up with Associated Press Media Editors (APME) to bring the renowned NewsTrain training series to Toronto on September 13-14, 2012. The program is designed to provide newsroom leaders with the skills, knowledge, and information they need in a rapidly changing media setting. Read more »

After serving as The Globe and Mail’s restaurant critic for 38 years, Joanne Kates has announced her retirement. Kates’ final restaurant review was published on in the Globe on Friday, May 18 and a farewell column will appear in the Saturday, May 26 edition of the paper. The renowned journalist is widely known for her annual 100 Best Restaurants list. Read more »

Catherine Solyom, a reporter for the Motnreal Gazette, has been awarded a research grant from the Fédération Professionelle des Journalistes du Québec (FPJQ). Solyom will use the grant money to travel to Chile and Argentina in the coming months to research the social and environmental impact of a Canadian gold mine in the Andes Mountains. Read more »
