The calculator uses an index of 100 as a base line that is equivalent to a newspaper ad, targeting both genders, ¼ page, black & white with all other factors set to default. For example, an index score of 237 means the ad would have 2.37 times the impact of the ¼ page, black & white ad.

The data was sourced from 77 newspaper studies from around the world (including 37 from Canada).
