Newspapers Canada is a joint initiative of the Canadian Newspaper Association (CNA) and the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA). Each association offers different membership options for newspapers, organizations and individuals affiliated with the industry.

For newspapers:

Canadian Newspaper Association - Full Membership

Individuals and companies that own and publish daily newspapers may apply for Full Membership in the CNA. Daily newspapers are classified as those that publish a minimum of five times each calendar week, except on statutory holidays.

Benefits of Full Membership:

  • CNA Full Members enjoy access to programs and services offered by Newspapers Canada, including awards programs, business services, education and training, marketing materials, newsletters and industry reports.
  • Right to vote at members' meetings.
  • Access to the Members' Area of the Newspapers Canada website.
  • Subscription to weekly e-newsletter, News on News.
  • Subscription to The Press and The Courts.
  • Special member rates for Newspapers Canada events such as webinars and the annual INK+BEYOND conference and trade show.

Canadian Community Newspapers Association - General Membership

Newspapers may apply for CCNA General Membership through a CCNA-affiliated member association (i.e., regional or provincial community newspaper association). Upon acceptance by an affiliated member association as an Active member, a newspaper automatically becomes a general member of CCNA. For eligibility criteria, contact your nearest CCNA-affiliated member association.

For industry suppliers, individuals, and newspapers ineligible for full or general membership:

Newspapers Canada – Sustaining/Associate Membership

Sustaining/Associate membership in Newspapers Canada is open to suppliers, vendors and consultants to the newspaper industry.

This corporate-level membership applies to individuals and organizations that are primarily affiliated with or do direct business with newspapers. Applications for Newspapers Canada Sustaining/Associate Membership are submitted to the Newspapers Canada boards of directors for approval.

  • Insert in new member kit
  • Discount on CommunityWire.
  • Weekly News on News e-newsletter as well as all other non-confidential Newspapers Canada publications
  • Registration for the annual INK+BEYOND conference at discounted member rates
  • Special exhibitor rates for the annual conference
  • Newspapers Canada materials at member rates
  • Access to programs and services offered by Newspapers Canada

Sustaining/Associate Membership entitles members to a number of privileges and benefits but does not give them the right to receive confidential information and data. Sustaining/Associate Members are not eligible to vote at CNA or CCNA members’ meetings.

Canadian Community Newspapers Association - Fellowship

The CCNA Board of Directors may approve as a fellow of the association any retired member or professional person who has been with a member newspaper, is no longer engaged in the newspaper business and is not eligible for membership in one of the affiliated associations.

Nominations for these fellowships must be submitted in writing by a CCNA-affiliated association. Fellows are entitled to all the services of CCNA but shall not have the right to vote at members' meetings. Fellowship members are ineligible to hold a seat on the CCNA Board of Directors.
