Alberta’s Star Press honoured with printing awards

Star Press of Wainwright Alberta has won three first place awards at the Printing Industries of America’s Web Offset Association (WOA) 2013 Print Awards Competition. Star Press was recognized for printing with UV inks on newsprint, printing with UV inks on glossy stock and printing special projects with UV inks for an issue of the Wainwright EDGE that included a glossy wrap, inline stitching and inline variable data printing all done in one pass through the press.

Canadian papers come out on top at Local Media Association awards

The Local Media Association (formerly Suburban Newspaper Association) has announced the winners of its annual editorial awards for newspapers across North America.

Metroland Media and Black Press were the top company winners at this year’s competition with Metroland acquiring an impressive 129 awards across the chain and Black Press receiving 55 awards. The Surrey/North Delta (ON) Leader and the St. Albert (AB) Gazette were the top weekly papers receiving 14 awards each while the Burlington (ON) Post and The Mississauga (ON) News earned 10 and nine awards respectively.

Daily and community newspapers among the finalists for 2012 CAJ Awards

The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) has announced the finalists for its 2012 awards. The annual recognition program honours outstanding investigative journalism produced by Canada’s print and broadcast media. A number of daily and community newspapers have been nominated for their outstanding editorial and photography.

Reporters from Toronto Star and Lethbridge Herald win the 2012 Goff Penny Awards

Jennifer Pagliaro from the Toronto Star and Katie May from the Lethbridge Herald have been selected as the two recipients of the 22nd annual Hon. Edward Goff Penny Memorial Prize for Young Canadian Journalists.

Calgary Herald’s holiday campaign wins international award for philanthropy

The Calgary Herald has received the 2013 Award for Outstanding Corporation from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) for its annual Christmas Fund initiative. Since its inception in 1991, The Herald’s annual holiday fundraiser has collected $20.7 million for hundreds of non-profit organizations in the region. The international award recognizes companies that demonstrate a commitment to supporting worthy causes by providing financial support, leadership and encouragement of others within the communities.
