Toronto Star wins CJF Excellence in Journalism Award

The Toronto Star has been awarded the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s (CJF) prestigious Excellence in Journalism Award in the large/national media category for the third time in five years. The annual award honours an organization which embodies exemplary journalistic standards and practices with a resulting impact on the community it serves.

"In the finest traditions of investigative journalism, the Toronto Star fearlessly committed its journalistic resources to uncovering one of the most important ethical stories in recent political leadership, despite economic cost and some politically motivated criticism," says Hershell Ezrin, a member of the jury. "But these principles and commitment to telling the whole story were also demonstrated in developing other major stories of the year and how they impacted Canadians."

The Vancouver Observer won in the local/regional media category and L'Echo de Frontenac received an Honourable Mention.

The winners were announced at the 17th Annual CJF Awards to be held at The Fairmont Royal York on June 4 in Toronto.
