Globe takes readers behind the scenes

The Globe and Mail is taking readers and web editors behind the scenes for a look at how its recent series, The Immigration Question, was designed for interactivity across various platforms. Editors share techniques used for taking massive statistical information and creating readable infographics and features, and discuss how design and use of white space held the visuals together.

The goal was to create a tailored experience regardless of whether the reader was using a desktop computer or a touch-based tablet. For example, the interactive supported touch gestures throughout to ensure reading on a tablet was as easy as on a desktop. Graphics and photos could be swiped to advance to the next item, while HTML5 video ensured playback on most devices.
