Star Media Group has announced that it will be ceasing distribution of the Toronto edition of The Onion. Torstar first announced it would enter into a distribution agreement with the parody news publication and its sister arts and culture publication The A.V. Club in July 2011.

According to an internal memo issued by Star Media Group, the decision to close the publications in print and online comes as a result of declining advertising revenue.

The last issue will be distributed on July 26, 2012.
