Veteran news writer Dennis Bell passed away on June 27 at age 69. Bell began his writing career at the Calgary Herald and went on to work for numerous news outlets including the Vancouver Times, The Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Province and BCTV.
He is widely known for his tale of Polly the foul mouthed parrot who lived in the Caribou Hotel in Carcross, Yukon. He wrote the now-infamous piece, titled Parrot Reformed but Hates Everyone, in 1972 during his time at the Vancouver bureau of The Canadian Press .
