Former Ottawa Citizen columnist Roger Appleton dies at 84

Long-time Ottawa Citizen columnist Roger Appleton has passed away at age 84. Appleton first joined the Citizen in 1963, reporting from the courthouse and in the city hall bureau. During his 16 years with the newspaper, he founded the daily consumer affairs column Action Line. The column, in which Appleton assisted wronged consumers in their battles against local businesses, went on to become one of the daily paper’s most popular features.

Appleton retired from the newspaper in 1986.
