Joe Anderson, vice-president and publisher of Metroland North, has announced that he will be retiring.
Anderson began his newspaper career at a young age, working as a carrier for The Globe and Mail. He joined the staff at Oshawa This Week (formerly This Week) in high school as a summer intern and began working his way up the circulation department.
After Oshawa This Week was purchased by Metroland in 1981, Anderson worked in advertising and sales roles at a number of different community papers before taking on management positions at publications in Markham, Scarborough, Newmarket and Barrie.
In 2005, he was appointed vice-president and regional publisher of Metroland North.
Anderson has earned a number of industry awards throughout his career, including a Silver Quill Award from the Ontario Community Newspapers Association in 2010 and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012.
