NewsTrain program director Michael Roberts has been announced as the recipient of the 2013 Associated Press Media Editors (APME) President’s Award. Roberts has been involved with APME’s signature training program, NewsTrain, since its inception in 2003. He started out as featured speaker for the national traveling journalism workshop series and went on to become the program director in 2011.

Roberts also served as deputy managing editor of staff development at The Arizona Republic from 2003 to 2010, where he was responsible for all newsroom training, served as writing coach and edited major projects.

Roberts will receive the President’s Award during at the 80th APME conference, to be held October 28-30, 2013 in Indianapolis.
