In September, Paul Samyn became the new editor at the Winnipeg Free Press. Samyn had been serving as interim editor following the departure of former editor Margo Goodhand in July. He began his newspaper career at the Free Press in 1988 as a reporter. Over his 24 years with the daily, Samyn covered numerous political and international events and served as the paper’s Ottawa bureau chief for a decade and as the city editor since 2007.
