Prominent print, radio and television journalist Bob Johnstone has passed away at age 82. Johnstone began his journalism career in print, writing for the Toronto Telegram and The Canadian Press before joining the Toronto Star in the 1950s. He worked at the Star for over twenty years and covered a number of editorial areas of interest including courts, city hall and crime reporting.
Johnstone later made the move to broadcasting and joined the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC). During his time at the CBC, Johnstone was renowned for his storytelling abilities. He gained notoriety for his three-minute “Today in History” radio features and as one of the original hosts of the CBC’s investigative television program, the fifth estate.
