Seventh annual National Freedom of Information Audit out now
Newspapers Canada released its seventh annual National Freedom of Information (FOI) Audit on September 24 at the Sunshine Summit in Calgary. The launch of the 2012 report coincides with the beginning of Canadian Right to Know Week. The annual FOI audit reviews the performance of Canadian governments with respect to their access to information regimes.The audit provides the public with an opportunity to see the degree to which our governments are in compliance with their own FOI legislation and facilitates comparisons among jurisdictions. Newly released: 2011 Community Newspaper Revenue Report
Total community newspaper advertising revenue in 2011 is more than $1.2 billion, a 3.1% increase over 2010, according to the latest annual revenue survey conducted for the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA). Print advertising revenue represents the majority of revenue at more than $1.1 billion and the balance is online revenue at $43.7 million. NADbank launches new readership data for daily newspapers
Nearly eight in 10 urban adults read daily newspapers every week according to the latest readership study released by Newspaper Audience Databank (NADbank Inc.). The 2011 Mid-Year Study includes daily newspaper readership data from fall, 2011 and spring, 2012 from major Canadian markets including Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Ottawa-Gatineau, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Halifax. “The results of this study confirm that daily newspapers continue to be a vital source of news, information and entertainment for consumers,” said NADbank president Anne Crassweller. Finalists announced for Canadian Online Publishing Awards
A number of Canadian newspapers are among the list of finalists at the 2012 Canadian Online Publishing Awards. The annual awards, administered by Masthead, honour newspapers, magazines, broadcasters and online-only publishers for excellence in digital journalism and design. WAN-IFRA study tour: Strategies for new revenues
From October 22 to 26, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will host a European study tour for publishers and news executives. The educational initiative, titled Strategies for New Revenues, will investigate niche strategies for publishers and new newspaper products designed to help boost revenues. The tour will travel between London, Amsterdam, Warsaw and Oslo and participants will have the opportunity to visit a number of renowned publications including The Economist, Monocle, The Guardian and Telegraaf Media Group.
